背景

8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) is a derivative of deoxyguanosine nucleotide with a hydroxyl group attached to the C8 carbon. This modification alters the base of the DNA molecule, thereby affecting its stability and function. It is an oxidative adduct produced when reactive oxygen species such as hydroxyl radicals and singlet oxygen attack the 8th carbon atom of the guanine base in the DNA molecule. This oxidative reaction is one of the main forms of DNA damage and is closely related to the aging of the body and the occurrence of diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and neurodegenerative diseases. As a biomarker of DNA oxidative damage caused by endogenous and exogenous factors, 8-OHdG is a very promising indicator.
